Some ideas deserve to be built.
Off the shelf wasn't going to cut it. A few custom ideas brought to life. Different projects, different challenges, and plenty of attention to the details.
01The Waller Theater
A great client and an even better friend, Jay received hush box serial number 0001. In a room packed with awesome gear, he says the hush box is his favorite piece. His words, not ours. Check out Youthman’s YouTube video for a complete tour of Jay’s room.
02The Lawrence Theater
From an empty room to movie night. A complete theater build featuring sound isolation, acoustical design and treatments through Quest Acoustical Interiors, and stretch fabric walls. Finished with a JVC hush box, Stewart screen, custom Revel LCR enclosures, and backer boxes for the surround and Atmos speakers. Seaton Sound subwoofers, Trinnov processing, Lumagen video processing, and Kaleidescape complete the system, with video calibration by Kris Deering and audio calibration by Adam Pelz. Designed, built, and installed from start to finish.
03Mjölnir, The Hammer
Worthy of the name. The client brought these custom stacked Baltic birch speakers from Fargo, North Dakota, to our shop for CNC-cut carbon fiber baffles and a black finish. A look that lives up to how awesome these speakers are.
04Solid White Oak Hush Box
A 1920s Hollywood home with quartersawn white oak millwork deserves a hush box that belongs. Built in matching quartersawn and riftsawn white oak to feel right at home.
05Star Wars & Star Trek Themed Hush Box
The Force is strong with this one. A Baltic birch hush box with custom LED-lit, magnetically attached themed side panels and an aluminum port glass housing. A lot of work went into this build, and the result was worth every bit. Check out the video for the full build.
06Christie M4K25 Hush Box
A modular hush box for the Christie M4K25, built around an extruded aluminum frame with removable panels. A giant box doesn’t have to be a giant hassle—the modular design makes installation and access straightforward.
07Deep Dive AV Hush Box
A velvet-wrapped JVC hush box with a Panamorph lens mount, built for Deep Dive AV. Check out the video for a full tour of Kris’ room.
0811.3° Pitched Hush Box
A custom hush box built with a precise 11.3-degree pitch to match the client’s sloped ceiling for a clean, integrated fit.
09565 mm MK1
A custom 565 mm-tall hush box built for a JVC projector, installed for the client by The Screening Room AV.
10MK1 Hush Box
Girls like hush boxes too. A custom build for a client who knows projector noise has no place on movie night.
11MK1 Hush Box in a Ceiling
A hush box install in Fargo, North Dakota, with one condition per the wife: we could run the ductwork through the closet, but it had to look nice. Neatly boxed in and finished to match—challenge accepted.
12SC1 Hush Box
No ductwork? No problem. Our SC1 hush box combines projector noise reduction with built-in, temperature-controlled cooling—all in a self-contained design.
13Recessed MK1 Hush Box
A custom hush box for a projector partially recessed into the ceiling. A tricky fit, plus a duct run across the home gym to reach the fan in the utility room. We made it work with neatly boxed-in ductwork and matching paint. Nothing a little planning and a clean finish couldn’t handle.
14Navy Blue Hush Box
Who says a hush box has to be black? Finished in navy blue, this custom build makes quiet look a little different.
15Hickory Hush Box
A custom hickory hush box built to match the millwork throughout the theater. Same wood, same attention to detail.
16Two-Piece Hush Box
A custom two-piece hush box designed for a tricky location above a staircase. A purpose-built French cleat and spacer provide the mounting offset needed to center the box in the room.
17Angled Ceiling Hush Box
A unique ceiling called for a custom fit. This hush box was designed to follow the ceiling’s shape for a clean, integrated look.
18Panamorph Lens Mount
Thanks to Shawn at Panamorph for sending us a lens housing to develop our custom billet aluminum lens mount. Designed, prototyped, and machined for a precise fit.
19Billet Aluminum Port Glass Housing
A billet aluminum port glass housing featuring FlushFasteners for a clean, stealth installation. Check out the video to see how it comes together.
20Oreo 22.5° Atmos Boxes
Half black, half white. This open media space called for Atmos enclosures in both finishes to match each side of the room. Each was built with a 22.5-degree angle and custom height to clear a beam.
2110° Focal Atmos Boxes
Custom 10-degree Atmos enclosures for Focal speakers with built-in 35-degree baffles. The open-back design allows the speakers to recess into the ceiling’s existing speaker cutouts while adding the angle needed to aim them toward the listening area.
22Klipsch PIC800 Atmos Boxes
The client wanted Klipsch Atmos speakers with compression drivers to match his bed layer. We disassembled the original housings, removed and bypassed the 70V transformers, and built custom enclosures. Boom—matching Klipsch Atmos speakers.
23Revel Atmos Boxes
Custom 45-degree Atmos enclosures for Revel speakers, aimed toward the listening area and installed by The Screening Room AV.
24Revel Velvet Atmos Boxes
A velvet ceiling deserves velvet Atmos boxes. Custom-wrapped to blend right in.
25Paradigm Backer Boxes
Custom backer boxes for Paradigm speakers, with adjustable mounting brackets for a precise fit between the joists.
26MFD212 Subwoofer
Double down on the low end. The MFD212 pairs two 12-inch drivers with a custom-built, internally braced cabinet, finished in black with visible wood grain and our signature gold badge.
27Dual 10 In-Wall Subwoofer
Keep the floor space. Keep the bass. Custom in-wall subwoofers that bring the low end without another box in the room.
28K-Array Hidden Bookend Speakers
If you don’t love K-array line arrays hidden inside real 1930s Webster’s dictionaries, we can’t be friends. Laser-cut for a precise fit. These books sound better than they read.
29JBL Professional Patio
Who says outdoor systems can’t be great? This JBL Professional patio setup brings 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos and four 12-inch subwoofers built into the ceiling. Summer movie nights just got an upgrade.
30Congress Lake Club Ball Room
A historic private club with a modern sound system. For Congress Lake Club’s ballroom renovation, we installed ceiling speakers, zone controls, and DSP, all connected over a network. The bar received paint-matched JBL COL600 speakers for a clean, coordinated look. And yes, we hid the wires.
31Demo Room AV Rack Relocation
We take “Where Quiet Begins” seriously. That means getting the noisy stuff out of the room—including the AV rack. We relocated the equipment from an in-wall rack to a new 42U rack outside the theater, then finished the other side of the wall with black slat wall. Quieter room. Better view.
32Kiln TI Executive Suites
FabricWall stretch fabric wall systems installed across 18 offices at the Kiln TI Executive Suites in Boise, Idaho. A clean, consistent finish throughout the workspace.
33Lennar Homes Executive Suites
FabricWall stretch fabric wall systems installed at the Lennar Homes executive offices in Miami, Florida. A tailored finish with careful attention to corners, transitions, and the details that bring the space together.

35Fortress West End Theater Seating

36Tilting Center Channel Stand
Aim the dialogue where it belongs. This custom center channel stand features a pivoting mount, designed in-house and 3D-printed in ABS, with ±15 degrees of tilt to point the speaker toward the listener.
37Solid Oak Theater Door
When nothing off the shelf works, you build it. A custom solid oak theater door on self closing hidden hinges, colored with Rubio Monocoat and finished with Oil Plus 2C. A traditional jamb wasn’t an option—the adjoining wall hinges open to make room for large items going up and down the stairs. Custom door, unconventional entrance.
38Custom Backlit Sign
“The dark will find the light.” A custom backlit Coheed sign framed in real walnut, milled in-house and finished with Rubio Monocoat.
39Custom Acrylic Car Badge
A little Coheed for the commute. A custom acrylic car emblem that takes a love of the music beyond the speakers.
40Tool Cart Sink
Even the shop sink had to be custom. We turned a red Snap-on tool cart into a sink with a stainless basin, and pull-down faucet. If it’s cool and custom, we’ll do it—even when we’re just washing our hands.
41White Oak Farm House Beams
A 100-year-old farmhouse comes with character—and a three-inch ceiling difference between rooms. We built these beams from solid white oak with lock-mitered edges and a Rubio Monocoat finish, adding custom black end caps to conceal the ceiling imperfections. This was a seriously challenging build. The photos don’t show how much it took to make everything fit—and that’s a testament to how well it came together. The 100-inch TV and slat wall? Also courtesy of MF Design Co. The cows approve.
